It’s mid-season and I’m tired.

That point is here. Some years it comes sooner and some years it comes later, but make no mistake, it always comes. You know the one I’m talking about? The week where all the pre-game jitters have settled down to the point they are almost non-existent. The Friday that I’m not overly nervous and my anxiousness is for the game to be over, not to start.

That point when resentment has set in and boils in my blood with every dirty dish, load of laundry, whine from my kids...

I drove away from the fieldhouse today with wails from my toddler only wanting to play with his Daddy. He doesn’t understand why he can’t play ball with the big boys on the field. He doesn’t understand why Daddy isn’t home for goodnight kisses anymore. He doesn’t understand on Friday nights why he can’t run out on the field and play. And he doesn’t understand that it’s simply football season, and soon enough, Daddy will be back home.

Can you feel it in the air? Can you smell it on the dirty clothes in your laundry room? Can you hear it in the talk around town? Football season is almost here! Before you know it training camp will be here, two-a-days, scrimmages; then the lights will flip on, the crowd will cheer, the team will run out and you'll see your man put on his headset with a tightness in your stomach, praying you go home with a win.

Right now, it's just a couple of hours every morning or afternoon. Righ...

This summer, Chandler and I are celebrating nine years together and five years married! To the parents and grandparents of our generation five years is nothing, but for us, being with someone for nearly a decade and still (happily) married five years later is almost as rare as a unicorn!
